Analog PA Systems (Traditional)

Basic Configuration and Application Range

Bosch analog systems are typically designed to transmit audio signals through cables (a non-IP-based system) from the controller/amplifier to loudspeakers across different zones.

For example, in the Bosch Plena Voice Alarm System, the central voice alarm controller includes an integrated 240 W amplifier and can serve up to six loudspeaker zones.

Applications: supermarkets, stores, factories, office buildings, schools, and hotels — suitable for small to medium-sized installations.

Basic Components: microphone/input devices, central controller, amplifier, loudspeaker network, and wiring between devices.

Typical Product Line: Bosch Plena Voice Alarm System
This is a “voice alarm” system — capable of both background music and voice announcements, as well as emergency voice evacuation messages.

Operating Principles of the Bosch PA System

Main Components:

  • Input devices: microphones or background music (BGM) sources.

  • Central controller: e.g., LBB1990/00 in the Plena Voice Alarm System.

  • Amplifiers: boost audio signals before distribution.

  • Loudspeakers: ceiling, cabinet, or horn types depending on the application.

  • Transmission path: analog 100V line or Ethernet/IP network for digital systems.

Operation Workflow:

  1. Signal Input: Operators or automated sources (microphone, emergency call station, or music source) send signals into the system.

  2. Processing & Control: The controller manages zoning, priority levels, supervision, and emergency scenarios.
    Example: the Plena LBB1990/00 supports full system supervision, loudspeaker impedance monitoring, and emergency microphone supervision.

  3. Amplification: Audio signals are boosted to sufficient power for different loudspeaker zones.

  4. Transmission:

    • In analog systems, amplified audio travels via 100V line wiring to the loudspeakers.

    • In IP/digital systems, audio is converted into digital data and transmitted over Ethernet/IP to amplifiers or decoders in each zone.

  5. Output: Loudspeakers broadcast announcements, background music, or emergency messages. The system continuously monitors for faults (e.g., speaker line breaks, short circuits).

  6. Emergency Operation: When triggered by a fire alarm or emergency, the system automatically switches to voice evacuation mode, prioritizing emergency microphones and broadcasting evacuation messages while pausing background music.
