Da Nang Inspects Progress of Security Camera System Installation

In Hoa Cuong Bac Ward (Hai Chau District, Da Nang), the initiative of socializing the installation of security cameras has been effectively implemented. Residents have contributed funds to install 121 cameras across residential roads.

Progress of the Security Camera Installation Initiative

The leading area is Residential Group 93, located along Nguyen Son Ha Street. Despite being under 200 meters long, residents contributed 16 million VND to install six cameras. Ms. Tran Thi Hong Lanh, head of Group 93, shared that when the plan was discussed in a meeting, all 25 households agreed. Notably, My Phu Enterprise donated 1 million VND and a camera. Mr. Phan Duc Tong, head of Group 10, noted after installing five cameras, "Installing cameras to prevent crime protects the lives and properties of the entire group and individual families, so everyone is supportive." On average, each household contributed 350,000 VND, with wealthier families voluntarily donating more to help less affluent households.

On March 24, Colonel Le Van Tam, Director of Da Nang Police Department, and Colonel Nguyen Van Chinh, Deputy Director, inspected various ongoing camera installation sites in Hai Chau District. As of now, Phase 1 of the project has resulted in approximately 200 cameras being installed across 10 wards, with work accelerating at 87 remaining locations. After receiving updates, Colonel Le Van Tam emphasized the need to maintain the pace, quality, and connectivity of the system to ensure it meets deadlines and serves major city events.

Once Phase 1 concludes, lessons learned from Hai Chau District will be applied to other districts across Da Nang. Currently, Hai Chau District has over 11,000 cameras installed through social contributions in public spaces, agencies, schools, and homes. This extensive network significantly supports crime prevention, case resolution, and urban management.

Positive Impacts on Community Security

In Hoa Cuong Bac, high-quality cameras covering up to a 50-meter radius have been linked to the local police and residents' phones, allowing them to monitor their homes and nearby areas remotely. Suspicious activities can be promptly reported, enhancing crime prevention. Residents observed that visible cameras deter criminals, who often avoid camera-monitored areas.

For instance, on November 28, 2016, a resident in Vincon Apartments reported a stolen electric bicycle. Police reviewed footage from security cameras, identifying the thief as Tran Phuoc My Hoan, who later confessed when confronted with the evidence. Such instances highlight the crucial role cameras play in aiding investigations and providing peace of mind to residents like Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, who remarked, "I feel secure leaving for work, knowing I can monitor my household anytime through the cameras."

Hoa Cuong Bac aims to achieve 100% camera coverage in residential groups by 2017. Police Chief Vo Dinh Sy has also urged district authorities to upgrade the internet bandwidth to at least 50Mbps, as the current 10Mbps speed causes occasional disruptions.

As of now, Hai Chau District has installed nearly 11,000 cameras, with Hoa Cuong Bac leading the effort with 1,255 cameras. The ward is determined to achieve its target of full camera coverage in residential groups by 2017.
