Argentina Selects HID goID Technology to Provide Citizens with the World’s First Mobile National ID Program.

HID Global, a global leader in trusted identity solutions, recently selected HID goID citizen identification technology to provide the country with a digital version of its mandatory National Identity Document for the Mi Argentina app.

The Mi Argentina app uses HID goID technology:

Citizens with the Mi Argentina app can initiate their mobile ID request by visiting a Renaper office, where their identity is verified and authenticated. Once approved, they receive an email with a code to activate their National Identity Document. In the event that their smartphone is lost or stolen, their credentials can be revoked instantly, protecting citizens from potential identity theft.

Mobile IDs are securely stored on citizens’ smartphones, meaning they can still be accessed if the mobile phone does not have a data plan or is not connected to a network or Wi-Fi. On-phone storage provides additional security to the mobile ID ecosystem, as there is never a need to go back to a central database channel.

The HID goID mobile ID ecosystem creates a more secure and connected world based on field-proven technology. It enables the issuance, lifecycle management, and verification of mobile identities and is a customizable solution that offers more functionality than physical identification documents.

The Mi Argentina app, which houses the National Identity Document, was developed by the Ministry of Modernization and allows citizens to download the app on their mobile devices to request appointments, receive health information, and access information, such as their driver’s license.

Renaper issues all citizens a National Identity Document at birth and requires two mandatory renewals: between the ages of 5 and 8, and at age 14. Adults are required to renew every 15 years.

The Argentine government is leading the way in bringing the convenience and security of mobile identity to its citizens. Not only is this innovative application easy to obtain, but it could be the first step in government-wide identity digitization in Argentina and other countries in the coming years.
